Surplus and overage weapons and ammunition poses a number of safety and security issues including spontaneous explosion of old stockpiles and leakage of weapons into criminal and terrorist hands. The threat is especially high in post-conflict areas and former Warsaw Pact countries.

We are proficient at conducting explosive risk assessment for surplus and abandoned stockpile munitions and the identification of risk mitigation solutions that protect people and assets.

WHA consultants are experienced in the in design, development and management of demil solutions that are environmentally benign and prevent possible reuse. We are particularly proficient at identifying field-expedient solutions in remote and hostile areas.

We can also undertake independent, therefore unbiased, review of third-party solutions or operations and conduct QA/QC programmes on demil projects.

Whilst WHA does not support Open Burning/Open Detonation (OBOD) as an environment friendly demil technique, we do accept that under circumstances of extreme insecurity, OBOD may be the only viable method of disposal.
